O.k.izz Creations
Isabel Williams is an intriguingly socially aware artist born in Portsmouth and raised in Brighton who not only creates astounding pieces of all kinds.
Having suffered from severe anxiety, depression, bulimia, anorexia and (CVS) Cyclical Vomiting Syndrom. Isabel spent the majority of her early adult life with repeated visits to AnE, attempting to do CBT with little progress in her mental and physical health. Added family struggles. Struggling with her work as a carer.
Izzy had to quit work and focus on her physical health using art to build a career from home that still allows her to help others.
Despite missing her role as a career she feels as though her health issues at the time were triggered by alot of external factors such as family issues which she's more able to deal with at present.
From abstract canvas art to digital line drawings. Izzys skill and artistic direction seems evolve with each piece.
We took some time to work with her for our Valintines week collection, creating our Heads Up Lips Up Line along with a host of Prints "to focus on the L in LGBTQ and Period Poverty as they are often not pushed into the forefront" and WE HAVE MORE ON THE WAY!
We are also Proud to announce O.k.iz Creations website is now live!! Where you can buy said prints and canvas art. Sign up to O.k.iz will start Soon!
In an exclusive interview with O.T Official, Isabel told us what led her to start looking at art as a potential career and further explained the Social Justice aspect of her work.
Not satisfied with simply being an artistic sevont who learnt most of her skills herself finishing school at GCSE.
Izzy also uses her art and social media pages to bring awareness to social issues like, Black Lives Matter period poverty, environmentalism women's rights, black women's rights disperities and black history awareness. Stating that she "wasnt finding meaning in the art i was doing, without feeling it should have some sort of relation to a world issues." Speaking to her bleeding heart.
"As a really tiny child I remember being concerned with nature, dead snails and bees, I had a hedgehog friend. My first sentence was 'an ilkley bug fell off a leaf'. "
Isabel recalled her first concious feeling of environmentalism watching Princess Mononoke for the first time. A Japanese anime which has seemed to influence western culture in a big way.
Her connection to it was found not only through the story telling but the manga and anime artistic styles that displayed landscape and faces in a vivid spectacular way. Something which shows in her landscape work and facial line drawings which has an anime like art style to it.
When asked why she thinks this occurs having not taken notice of it before Izzy simply stated "Something about the way it looks speaks to me, if feels right."
